Dear Parents/Guardians,
At the end of last school year, The Hancock School District Board of Education asked the administration to form a committee to revise the student dress code at Hancock High.
A committee consisting of teachers, students, parents, PTSA, school board members, and community activists and agitators met during the hot summer months to discuss an appropriate dress code for our Hancock High School students.
In previous years, we had reviewed attire on a case-by-case basis. Unfortunately, this led to accusations that certain students were being singled out based on their race, nationally, color, and creed.
In an effort to
The committee has also recommended strict enforcement of our new dress code. Parent supervision of dress code is essential. In other words do not send your daughters to school dressed like skanks. We also do not want to see yours sons at school dressing in prison, gang, or black hip hop styles.
Here are just some of the highlights to our new dress code. For a complete list of dress code rules, refer to pages 112-134 of the student code of conduct and behavior for Hancock High.
• The Three B’s are not allowed. The three B’s are no breasts, no bellies (especially muffin tops), and no badonkadonks.
• Baggy pants are prohibited.
• No underwear showing.
• Pants are to be worn at the waist or higher (the grandpa look is cool).
• No red, blue, or plaid colors are ever to be worn.
• No booty shorts.
• No parody T-shirts with the G in gamecocks replaced with an L.
• No spaghetti strap tops.
• No high heels.
• No skinny jeans for fat kids.
The committee is hopeful that by eliminating the styles, colors, and types of clothes that can be problematic, that harmony will be restored to our diverse school campus.
So as we head into the 2011-2012 school year, please review the dress code policy. If you have any further questions, then contact the principal at Hancock High.
Thank you for your cooperation in this important dress code related matter.
Go Gamecocks!
Sincerely,
Mr. Mark Andrews, Dress Code Committee Chair
Dr. Pete Postmen, Superintendent of Hancock Schools
